The short version
You can take the benchmark without giving us anything. There is no login, and we set no cookies — so there is no cookie banner on this site, because there is nothing to consent to. If you join the waitlist you give us an email address, and you can delete it with one click from any email we send.
What we collect when you take the benchmark
- Your answers and how long each took. Which line you flagged, which diagnosis you picked, whether you shipped, and the time between the snippet appearing and your answer.
- A one-way hash of your IP address. Not the address itself. We hash it with a secret salt, which lets us count how many runs came from the same place without being able to recover where that was.
- Your country. Country only — not a city, region, or coordinates.
None of this is linked to you as a person unless you later join the waitlist from the same run. There is no account, no device fingerprint, and no third-party tracker.
Why
- To score you. The percentile is a real comparison against everyone else's results, which only works if results are stored.
- To keep the score honest. The hashed IP stops one person running the benchmark a thousand times and bending the curve. This is the only thing we use it for.
- To improve the questions. Knowing that 78% of people miss a particular bug tells us which snippets are working.
Under the GDPR our basis for the above is legitimate interest — running and defending the integrity of a benchmark you chose to take. For email, the basis is your consent.
If you join the waitlist
We store your email address, your answer to the “interviewing in the next 90 days?” question, your position in line, and which referral link brought you here if any. We do not sell it, rent it, or share it for anyone else's marketing.
We are not currently sending any email at all — not even a confirmation. The list exists so we can tell you once, when the full product opens. When we do start sending, every message will carry a one-click unsubscribe that works without logging in and takes effect immediately.
Analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics, which is cookieless and does not build a profile of you across sites. We record which stage of the benchmark people reach and which buttons they press — never the content of anything you typed, and never your email address.
Who else touches your data
These are the only processors involved. Each does one job:
- Vercel — hosting and analytics
- Neon — the database
- Upstash — rate limiting, to stop abuse
- Resend — sending the waitlist email
- Sentry — error reports when something breaks
How long we keep it
Benchmark results are kept for as long as the benchmark runs, because removing old results would distort the percentile for everyone else. They are not identifying on their own. Waitlist emails are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, and in any case no longer than two years after the last time you heard from us.
Your rights
If you are in the EU or UK you have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your data, and to object to our processing of it. In practice: unsubscribing removes you from all email, and emailing us gets your record deleted outright.
Because we only hash IPs and store no other identifiers, we generally cannot connect a benchmark result back to a person — so a deletion request covers your waitlist record. If you want a specific run deleted, send us its referral code and we will remove it.
